Long-distance driving specialist Gerhard Plattner has taken a SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive on a 2,500km journey through Germany to see whether it was possible to undercut the vehicle's official fuel consumption figures. The story below will tell you whether the attempt was a successful one or not.
According to SEAT's figures, the Ibiza Ecomotive returns an average 3.8 litres of diesel fuel per 100 km. However, Gerhard Plattner, using his extensive expertise in the field of economy driving, beat this figure by a huge margin, averaging just 2,75l/100km. As a result, the vehicle's average CO2 emissions level went down from the official 99g/km to just 72g/km.
The SEAT Ibiza Ecomotive is powered by a 1.4-litre diesel engine developing 80PS, with a particulate filtre coming as standard. In Germany, the vehicle retails for EUR 14,700.
In late November 2007, SEAT’s plant at Martorell produced its unit number six million. The milestone vehicle was a white Ibiza Ecomotive, the most environmentally-friendly car that the Spanish brand has produced in its entire history.Sources
